The distinctive physical composition or structure of something, especially with respect to the size, shape and arrangements with its parts.
Describing words:
Bumpy. Furry. Fuzzy. Drenched. Moist. Gritty. Cold. Warm. Hot. Matte. Pleated. Silky. Thick. Thin. Woolly. Tough. Smooth. Sharp.
My own definition of texture:
Texture is the physical feel that an object would give to the viewer. The texture can also be captured in photography in close up shots and macro shots to reveal the little shapes which create the texture.
Annotated photos of texture:

In this photo there is shown to be a close up shot of a basket. The texture is shown to be in two different forms in this photo, as the vertical lines are smooth and the horizontal lines are rough and ragged. The positive point of this photo is that by using a macro close up on the edge and outwards it gives the audience the realisation that it is a basket and they automatically know how a wicker basket feels, the depth also creates the photo to become eye catching. This is a positive factor because audience can be sent back into memories of the wicker baskets but also those who have never felt one automatically get an idea in their mind from the macro close up photo. The negative point of this photo is that the depth causes the attention to be drawn away from the texture, this is a negative factor because the photo would then not be shown in it's true light for what it was taken for. An improvement I would make to this photo would be to crop the back of the photo a little more, so there is not so much depth shown.

In this photo there is shown to be a close up shot of pebbles on the ground which have been cemented down. The texture reveals that the pebbles are all extremely smooth compared to stones. The positive point of this photo is by using a close up photo, the audience are able to see the texture of pebbles in a completely different view to what they would in everyday life, this is a positive factor because it creates them to be more interested and focused on the texture of the pebbles than anything else. The negative point of this photo is the shadows across the pebbles can be distracting, this is a negative factor because the audience would then convert to observing the shadows than the texture of the pebbles. An improvement I would make to this photo is by lighting the photo itself to create the shadows to be less dark and noticeable.

In this photo there is shown to be another close up shot but this time of leopard fur. This texture shows the roughness of a leopards fur. The positive point of this photo is by revealing the texture of a leopards fur in a close up photo the audience are more interested. This is a positive factor because the audience are intrigued with something that is not seen in everyday life, this photo also reveals the texture which is the roughness of the animal which cannot usually be approached fur. I believe that this photo does not have a negative point to reveal. An improvement I would make to this photo is by darkening the levels and curves a little.
In this photo there is shown to be the texture of paint which has dried up in clumps. This texture usually seen on old houses ceilings. This photo was also taken in a macro close up shot. The positive point of this photo is that the colour draws in the attention before the texture does. This is a positive factor because the audience are then related back to the old ceiling they had in their own houses on the ceilings and the way it used to feel. The negative point of this photo is that it is very basic for texture, this is a negative factor because the photo then becomes basic and not very outstanding like other ones. An improvement I would make to this photo would be to apply a different texture over the top of this layer before changing the opacity so it blends onto the original texture photo.
Work Diary:
In todays photography lesson, we shot texture. I enjoyed shooting texture in this session, because I was able to vary the photos on all the different objects which reveal different surfaces. The struggles I had in this lesson was to produce more photos using the lighting on the textures, this was because the weather was very cloudy and did not provide enough lighting to create both light and shadows at once to show more textures.
My two selected photos:
This is my first selected photo I have captured and edited. In this photo, the audience are able to see the texture of the trunk of a tree, in a close up shot. The positive point of this photo is the lighting against the texture, this is a positive factor because the lighting creates the edge of the photo to be shadowed while the rest of the photo is seen in light, the textured parts of the tree trunk are also shadowed which means they stand out in the audiences faces. The negative point if this photo is that the background slowly becomes the eye focus point, this is a negative factor because the focus point is taken off the texture the photo shows. An improvement I would make to this photo is by darkening the background out from the audiences view.

This is my second selected photo, I have captured and edited. In this photo, the audience are able to see a macro close up shot of stones and pebbles which create a path. The texture shown in this photo range from smoothness to sharpness of certain rocks and pebbles. The positive point of this photo is the suns light reflecting off the pavement, creates the textures of the stones and pebbles to really stand out. This is a positive factor because the audience then become interested seeing the textures of the path in a different view. The negative point of this photo would be the bottom part of this photo, this is a negative factor because the bottom half of this photo is blurred out before the rest of the rocks and pebbles go into focus.
Further development:
For further development on my first picture, I would like to print this photo out before using a sharp knife to cut lines into all the textures that are shown in the tree trunk, I would also cut away the background. For further development I would like to cut the picture into a range of sharp rocks and smooth pebbles shape before piecing them together again.
