Reflection.

The dictionary definition of Reflection is:
The phenomenon of a propagating wave (light or sound) being thrown back from a surface.

Describing words:
Mirror - image. Replication. Likeness. Echo. Image. Reflectivity.

My own definition of Reflection:
Reflection is a image which is repeated on another material e.g. a mirror or puddle, when a object is placed in front of it.

Annotated photos of Reflection:

In this photo there is shown to be a close up photo of a women's face looking down into a mirror, the reflection shows the audience the women looking at them from the mirror instead of her face being positioned towards them. Her face and body are also gaussian blurred except the mirror, to keep the audiences attention on the mirror reflection itself. The positive point of this photo is that by using the gaussian blur, the mirror is kept in focus with the women's reflection looking up at the audience. This is a positive factor because it  creates a more unique and interesting photo than what is usually shown in every day reflection photos. This photo has no improvements or negatives points to reveal.

In this photo there is shown to be a close up photo of a girls legs in the corner as the reflection of the rest of her body is shown in the reflection of what seems to be a puddle. The reflection only reveals that she has an umbrella. The positive point of this photo is that the socks draw in the attention as then the focus point is moved onto the reflection, this is a positive factor because it really surprises the audience as they would not expect the reflection to be in the photo itself. This reveals the facts of what the weather is like e.t.c. The negative point of this photo is that it is very basic, this is a negative factor because it means the audience are less likely to observe it due to the lack of surprisement and emotion given. The improvement I would make to this photo is by using repetition, so the photo stands out more.

In this photo there is shown to be a women leaning across the edge with her hand near the rippled water. The reflection shown in the water creates her hand to look like it is coming up out of the water to touch her own. Many stories can be made out of this from the audience. The positive point of this photo is that the reflection of the hand creates a realistic look that someone is reaching up through the water to the female subject, this is a positive factor because many people from the audience would relate it too subjects of 'loss and returning' or mythical beliefs of 'mermaids'.  I believe that this photo does not have any negative points or improvements to reveal.

In this photo, there is shown to be a close up photo of a young alternative boy as he presses against frozen/ misty glass. The reflection in this photo is shown to be paler than the subject himself but creates the appearance that it is looking and touching the subject back. This creates the look of a 'split personality' photo of evil and good. The positive point of this photo is that the reflection gives the split personality look to the audience of evil and good. This is a positive factor because it can create the audience to think and wonder why he may be 'trapped' or how his feelings are not seen like this in every day life. I believe that this photo also does not have a negative point or improvement to reveal.

Work Diary:

In today's photography session, we had to shoot reflection. I found by shooting this formal element, it was a lot easier than the other elements, this is because there was a lot of windows, doors and puddles from earlier's rain that reflected images. In this session, I had fun with taking similar photos in different sceneries of where reflection was. The only struggle I had with this is by creating more unique photos which can be shown in the reflection.

My two selected photos:

This is my first selected photo in which I have captured and edited. In this photo, we can see a view from over a female subjects shoulder but also the reflection of her taking a photo of her own reflection with the camera to her eye. The positive point of this photo is its original unlike most reflection photos due to the fact that it is taken from a different angle of the subject but also including what causes the reflection, this is a positive factor because the audience automatically become more interested and questioning why she is taking this photo but also gives them a taste of what a photographer looks like in action but this time the reflection shows a different view to what angle I have taken the photo. The negative factor of this photo is the lines that separate the mirrors but also the cubicle doors in the reflection cause distraction from the main subject. An improvement I would make to this photo would be to try and clone the two mirrors together to cut down the amount of distraction being caused.

This is my second selected photo in which I have captured and edited. In this photo, we can see a female subject walking along the path while her reflection is shown in the large windows beside her. The positive point of this photo is that by capturing an every day shot of someone walking, the reflection is noticed and becomes the focus point. This is a positive factor because the audience have more of a realisation of an element seen in every day life that is un-noticed until photo's like this are taken. The negative point of this photo is that the gap between the reflection and the model can be very distracting, this is a negative factor because the audience can pay more attention to the subject than the actual formal element. An improvement I would make to this photo is by trying to crop the middle section away or moving the model closer to the window.

Further development:
For further development, I would like to select my first chosen photo I have taken before creating a computer edit with this. The computer edit would be to create this photo into a 'Photography magazine cover' with 'Reflection' as it's main subject.
