Form.

The dictionary definition of form is:
1. The visible shape or configuration of something.
2. A particular way in which a thing exists or appears.

Describing words:
Rounded. Square. Puffed up. Slim. Fat. Accelerating. Puny. Short. Small. Tall. Tiny. Boiling. Breezy. Broken.

My own definition of form is:
The three dimensional nature of an object.

Annotated photographs of form:

In this photograph, we can see the form of the rain drops when they hit the water edge. The form of the circles are shown in different sizes while some of them repeat after each other. The positive point of this photo is that the speed of the shutter managed to capture the different size rings, this is a positive factor because the different sizes of the rings contrast against each other, creating the photo to become eye-catching.  I believe that this photo does not have a negative point to reveal. An improvement I would make to this photo, would be to lighten the whole photo a little more so the photo stands out more.

In this photograph, we can see the form of an young child's hand against an older persons hand. This bond shows a parent and child look, but also the ageing difference of them both as one is only young and pure while the other hand is aged and old. The positive point of this photo is that the hands stand out against the black background, this is a positive factor because the hands then become the focus point of the photo with nothing else in the background to distract the audience. The negative point of this photo is the younger hand is not a lot lighter than the older hand, this is a negative factor because the hand then does not stand out as being 'pure and young' as it slightly starts to blend into the aged hand. An improvement I would make to this photo, would be to lighten the younger hand with the brightness and contrast tool.

In this photograph, we can see the form of an underground escalator. This photo is also taken in black and white which can link with tones. This photo itself can remind the audience of their travels too different places when they had to take the trains. The positive point of this photo is that the angle chosen creates the photo too be interesting, this is a positive factor because the angle would represent a child's view of the escalators to the audience, showing them the fear of using things like this due to its over-powering look. I believe that this photo does not have a negative point or improvement to be revealed.

In this photograph, we can see the form of leaves as they fall down towards the camera. This photo was also taken in black and white which could link in with tones. This photo can also link in with patterns as the leaves fall down with a certain gap between them and show the middle line down the centre. The positive point is that the leaves are eye-catching by falling down towards the camera lens, this is a positive factor because it makes the photo natural but at the same time extremely unique in the way the photo has been represented. The negative point of this photo, is that the leaves are very basic and are against nearly a fully plain background, this is a negative factor because then the photo is not outstanding like others. An improvement I would make to this photo is to place colour on the middle leaf to really pull in attention to the forms of the leaves.

Work diary:
In the past few photography lessons, we have shot form. To shoot form, we used the shadows to show the form. These shadows ranged from the natural lighting outside to using artificial lighting in the studio against a human subject. I found these sessions easy outside because the natural lighting we had was perfect to create shadows. To begin with in the studio, I struggled getting the lighting correct upon the models face. I will keep practising this to get it perfect.

My two selected photos:

This is my first selected photo which I captured and edited. This was taken using artificial lighting in the studio to control how much and where the shadows would appear. In this photo we can see a close up side profile of a female subject. The form was shown across the side of the subjects face as the rest is lightened up. The background of this photo is also seen to be completely black as it fades onto the models hair. The positive point of this photo is that the shadows stand out against the models face, this is a positive factor because the audience can then see the form of the three dimensional shape, but also become drawn into the contrast of the lighting and shadow. I believe that this photo has no negative or improvement to be revealed.

This is my second selected photo which I captured and edited. This was taken using the natural lighting from the sun. In this photo we can see a close up shot of a bare tree trunk against a brick wall while the shadow revealing the form of the tree is shown to based in the corner of the wall. The positive point of this photo is that the audience believe there is a contrast between life and death in this photo from the form, this is a positive factor because by looking at the shadows of a huge grown tree with leaves to then look at the bare trunk of this tree, there is shown to be two different forms of a tree's life. The negative point of this photo is there is a white panel slightly shown in the top right corner, this is a negative factor because it can draw away the attention from the form of the tree. An improvement I would make to this photo would be to crop a bit of the top of the photo.

Further development:
For my further development, I would like to change the colour of the first selected photo's subject eye before then changing the colour of her hair. This would be then used as my fourth computer experiment. For my second selected photo I would like to interweave it on photoshop to create my fifth computer experiment.
